Some small updates...

Hey guys! Long time no see AGAIN! Sorry, I am just soooo busy with my university project that the time to draw is minimal. Although I do head back to the drawing board from time to time. After I've finished my animation in January hopefully it is time for my rendering which will hug up my computer for a long long time so I hope to be able to work on my portfolio then. All I have done lately is mug shots and portraits. These are quick to draw and quick to colour in and satisfies my need for drawing for the time being. But I have BIG plans. I know what I want to do now, FINALLY! I want to be a character designer and concept artist, for games and/or film.
I haven't got much variation in my portfolio though so I am heading for new grounds and will expand my horizons. I had a chat with one of my tutors yesterday, and asked him what sort of jobs I'd be able to apply for when I've finished my degree. He told me exactly what I wanted to hear and I had this bubbly feeling just exploding inside me, almost made me cry to be honest, when he said that I could get in to the industry as a concept artist. This means allot to me since my tutor is former lead pre-visualisation artist for EA-games and lead artist on Ed, Edd and Eddy.
He also told me what I need to focus on. Or well he said, where is your MEN! :'( So there we are, men it is. I am so safe in the female body, and I actually don't enjoy drawing men, BUT I have to and I  know that to, I've just been skipping around the subject for a long long time now.
So, on the drawing schedule from mid February there will be allot of men, hands and feet, since they are my weaknesses. I will also make more character sheets to develop my characters. I already have four planned, but I will only show you three since one is for my boyfriends big project "Agent Orange", which is a big hush hush.

I will probably start with this girl, yes I know, girl, but I have been working on this painting for a good while now and I came to love the character and though that she needs a personality and history, so I've slowly started building a story around her. Here's a little sneak peak, she is soooo not finished yet and I am planning on building the background in 3D to make it a bit more interesting.
The second charcter will be a girl to (I have no numerical order in which I will draw them this is just to show you who they are). This girl is a sort of sci-fi/tribal indian thing (?) if that makes any sence. I have only just started colouring in the sketch that gave me the idea for her but here she is anyway.
And the third one will be male, along with the fourth one. I haven't got any sketches yet, but the character for "Agent Orange" is well thought out and will be well cool. I am so sad I can't show him to you though. Ah well, for the one that you WILL see, it will be a centaur. I think I will go up the steampunk/sci-fi road just to give it a different take. I know centaurs are fable/fantasy creatures, but there is nothing stopping me from making it a bit different. I had the idea from an old drawing I did for a tattoo book called "The Mythical and Spiritual Tattoo Design Directory"
I know that the anatomy is a bit off, but that is just one of the reasons for me starting to draw more men.

So that is my plans and hopefully this will land me the job I dream off. Who knows, but please help me by  keeping your fingers crossed.

Laterz!

A litte WIP from what I am working on at the moment, I am very happy so far and I hope I don't mess it up. This is just a small fraction of the whole picture:

It's been a while again so I thought I'd update you on what's new. At the moment I am struggeling to be productive. I have a bunch of uni work that I have to get started with, but I can't find the motivation to. I haven't had ANY money for a week now and it sucks. It is crazy how not having any money can drag you down so much. No inspiration and no motivation.

I have a good idea for my major project this year though, and that is great, since I was really struggeling with coming up with something good. I will tell you more about it when I have some more pictures and a lica reel sorted.
Here's what I've been up to lately:

When I camped with my boyfriend up in the Brecon Beacons in June and July this is what I drew. I had to draw like crazy to keep sane ;)

More to come soon!

I totally forgot to upload my projects from this year in Uni. Mind Fluff is finished and so is my first Show Reel. Been a hard working year but my oh my have a learnt allot. I think making my own short have been the most rewarding and it is nice to know what you actually are capable off. I have been accepted for my third year as well so there is another long and hard year waiting, but I am looking forward to it with allot of excitement and will work my little bum off to graduate with that first class degree which seemed so far away the first year but now I finished my second year with one and realized that it's not impossible at all. Here we come third year, I am looking forward to you!

So, last month's ImagineFX challenge is over and I ended up on 4th place this time. The competition is just getting stronger and stronger which I love because it pushes me harder and harder to think out of the box.
This angel was my entry for last month, the topic was "Beyond The Darkness" and I decided to paint an angel that had to travel through darkness to reach the heaven. I was very happy with it at the time but now there is so many things I would have done differently. Also I tried something new out with the hair but it didn't seem to come across the way I wanted it to. Most people thought of it as unfinished, so I guess that was a fail from my part, but hey, you live and you learn :)

This months challenge brings a ton of new artists and is a great topic, "In a land far, far away". Yet again I've tried to push myself beyond my comfort zone and since I more or less never draw creatures, I thought it was time to cover some new ground.

So what happened was this little dude that I call the Herbiviger. He's living deep into the unexplored jungles in a land far far away, with his little family. Related to the tiger, although it only feed on vegetation and every now and then an insect or two. It is no larger than a domestic cat and brings its cubs up in a den under ground. They spend most of their time in the trees since that is where their food is. Although until the cubs are old enough at least one of the adults have to stay on the ground while the other collects food.

Here's the sketch...
...and this is how far I've come. The project is on a halt at the moment since I am overloaded with assignments due in the next coming week, but I hope to have finished before the end of may.
And that's that for now.
Over and out!

Work in Progress - April

So I got two things going right now. I am entering my second monthly challenge at ImagineFX so I am working hard on that at the moment. The keyword is "Beyond the Darkness" and I am doing this angel down here. My first ideas was something dark and scary but I wanted to do something out of the box and go in the opposite direction, and so I chose to do an angel that has travelled through darkness for a long long time to finally reach enlightenment. I think that you have travel through allot of darkness to reach your hearts deepest desire and to appreciate what's on the other side. So I am very happy with my concept and I am pushing myself into new grounds. I can remember the last time I drew wings and god damn it's hard to draw black feathers haha. But I'm getting there.
My second piece actually came out as something completely different. I planned on drawing a girl with huge robotic arms but as I went along I realised that I had seen soooo many drawings lately with exactly girls with robotic arms so what was meant to be something mechanical soon transformed into something organic. I started this before the angel but I've put it on hold since I want to finish the angel on time for the challenge.
Anyway that's that for now. I have allot of thing on the go at the moment, with uni and all as usual and I seriously can't wait for the summer so that I can focus on my art. I will sort out a hair tutorial as soon as I find the time, I promised a follower on deviantART this, and it will be fun to do a little something to help somebody else, also I will open up commissions for the summer so keep an eye out if you're interested.
Thanks for stopping by!

Daily Deviation

So today I've had my first daily deviation. It's amazing. I feel so happy and it is all down to Ceri recommending me. It is wierd to have allot of attention but it also give me the drive and inspiration to create more and more, I just can't get enough of drawing at the moment. Both good and bad I guess, because I got allot of uni work on as well and it does suffer from my drawing addiction. But there is no way I could stop drawing since that is what I love most.

Anyway this is my pride of joy:

I've also been doodeling a bit in photoshop. Sometimes it's just nice to go wild and not be so picky about the details and this is what comes out of that:

Another contract came my way a few days ago. I was asked to create a Photoshop tutorial on this vampire up here for a book called "How to Draw Supernatural Beings". I had tuns of fun doing it since it was my first tutorial ever made. I also learned allot while doing it which is great. I've become a sucker for details lately and I've read through plenty of tutorials. I see pictures very different now from what I did a few months back. Lighting and shading become more and more clear to me every time I see a new painting or photo. It's almost like my mind has become more open to these things, and I love it. My mind is like a sponge and it feels like it can never get to wet.

In general I feel like I'm finally becoming the artist I always wanted to be. I've even started to appreciate my own work and think that it's actually worth something. So I have achieved allot of things lately and there is more to come. Before Christmas I started up my own company called EJ Arts and I have big plans for myself. In not to long I hope to have a very nice portfolio sorted and also a website for myself. I'm planning to send this portfolio to as many companies as I can and see if I can establish myself as a Freelancing Artist. I'll keep you update on any progress.
